Program Overview

Canisius College offers an Online Master of Sport Administration (MSA) degree. The online MSA program provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively manage in a wide range of sport-related enterprises, including intercollegiate athletics, amateur and professional sports, sport-marketing firms, special-event management, and facility management.

All coursework can be completed online but are also offered as traditional on-campus courses. The degree program is ideal for those who want to continue their education while working and balancing other commitments. Courses will include Leadership in Sport Administration, Contemporary Issues in Sport, Sport Marketing, Philosophy and Ethics of Sport, Media Relations in Sport, Sport Law/Contract Negotiation in Sport, Intercollegiate Athletics, Professional Sport, Financial Aspects of Sport, and an internship in Sport Administration. The internship may be completed with sport organizations almost anywhere in the United States or internationally.

The program aims to teach students content and professional knowledge necessary for successful performance in their field by having students demonstrate an understanding of the common principles of sport management, sport leadership, sport operations management, event and venue management, and sport governance. Individuals will also need to demonstrate an understanding of the principles of finance, and the economics of sport as they fit into national and international economies. Students will gain the ability to communicate with various public and professional audiences through written texts, oral discussions, and multi-media presentations, as well as demonstrate essential management and business related skills in the work place. Students are expected to demonstrate willingness to use their skills to benefit society as well as show professionalism at all time.

    School Overview

    In 1870, German Jesuits constructed a building to establish Canisius College in Buffalo New York. Today, this institute has grown to include 56 structures on 72 acres. More importantly, Canisius College still retains its Catholic and Jesuit heritage.

    Students can pursue over 100 majors, minors, and other programs of study, and Canisius offers students 1,000 plus courses, awarding associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees.
