Master of Science in Respiratory Care (MSRC)
Canisius College offers an online Master of Science in Respiratory Care. This program is designed for registered respiratory therapists and health professionals, including nurses, doctors, physical therapists, pharmacists, exercise physiologists, and occupational therapists. Completion of this program will broaden student’s knowledge of pulmonary care. This program has the potential to be completed in as little as one year.
Students will take seven core courses and four specialty track courses in either Respiratory Therapeutics or Respiratory Care Education. The core courses include Health Promotion & Disease Prevention, Applied Statistics for the Health Professions, Cardiopulmonary Pathophysiology, Cardiopulmonary Pharmacodynamics, Research Methods in Allied Health, Pulmonary Function Testing, and Pulmonary and Cardiac Rehabilitation. Students who chose to follow the Respiratory Therapeutics track will need to take Medical Nutrition Therapy, Advanced Cardiopulmonary Monitoring, Advanced Topics in Ventilatory Support, and complete a Master’s Project. Students who chose the Respiratory Care Education track will take Learning with Technology, Adult Learning Theory, and complete a Masters Theory I and II course.
Students in the online Master's in Respiratory Care program can expect to prepare for clinical practice, undergo leadership training in management, supervision, education and research, develop skills to formulate appropriate questions, organize and test hypotheses, and apply research results to practice, among other acquired skills. Graduates will demonstrate content knowledge necessary for successful performance. Students will also learn how to continually assess and refine their newly acquired skills.
