Program Overview

Sport management can pertain to the front office system in professional sports, college or recreational sports managers, sports marketing, facility or event management, sports finance, or sports economics. California University of Pennsylvania’s Post Bachelor’s Certificate in Sports Management aims to teach college graduates critical and analytical skills necessary for a career in the sports management field.

This 40-week, 12-credit program will teach students leadership and management skills through courses such as Sport Governance, Sport Compliance, Legal Aspects of Equity in Intercollegiate Athletics, and Human Resource Strategies in Intercollegiate Athletics.

Students will learn about the intricacies of sports organizations in terms of intercollegiate athletics, gender equity issues, how to solve human resource issues, and mandatory techniques to be observed. In an intercollegiate athletic department, coaches, staff, and personnel work closely together. Those who enroll in this program will learn how to solve issues in a professional manner in future jobs within these athletic departments.

Students will be instilled with a foundation of the core areas within the sports industry. They will learn important qualities to be successful in the public, private non-profit, and commercial sports divisions. After students complete 12 credits in the intercollegiate athletic administration track, they will be eligible for a graduate certificate.

Some job duties associated with this particular career are working with corporations to promote special events, securing sponsorships, facility and event management, sport broadcasting, marketing sports good and licensed products, and media relations.

This certificate is best designed for people who love working with others, and want to have more responsibility and opportunities doing so. Those who work in sports management jobs usually share a love of sports, and work settings are usually enjoyable.
