Master of Science in Sport Management Studies
California University of Pennsylvania offers three tracks in the Master of Science in Sports Management Studies. These tracks include Sports Management, Sports Counseling, and Intercollegiate Athletic Administration. For all three tracks, students will participate in the same 24-credit hours in core studies. Sports counseling and intercollegiate athletic administration require another four courses, while sports management requires a 12-credit mentorship.
The 24-credit core studies will include Research Methods in Sport, Sport Marketing, Sport Finance, Sport Ethics, Management and Leadership in Sport, Public Relations in Sport, Socio-Cultural Aspects in Sport, and Legal Aspects in Sport.
The Sports Management track can be started in either January or July, with the mentorship in the fourth and final semester. Students are not allowed to begin the mentorship unless all their core coursework has been completed.
The Sports Counseling track, similar to Sports Management is begun in January or July. However, for a January start, there are Spring, Summer II, Fall, May, Summer I, and Summer II sessions. If students choose to begin in July, there are Summer II, Fall, Spring, May intersession, Summer I, and Summer II sessions. The only difference in these start times is the courses that are being taught in the different semesters.
For the Intercollegiate Athletic Administration track, there are also January and July start times. Both of these times will include Summer II, Fall, Spring, and a 10-week Summer semester.
When students successfully complete this 13 consecutive month program, they will be able to solve controversies in sports cultures by using critical thinking skills, strategize in order to maintain or improve stakeholder relations, understand how issues and principles of law and how it applies to the sports industry, and use management-related skills in sports organizations to strengthen efficiency.
