Program Overview

California University of Pennsylvania offers a Masters of Science in the Rehabilitation Science track for those focused on working in rehabilitation settings. This 12-month, 30-credit hour program aims to prepare students to take the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) certification. This certification will ensure professionals will be able to help athletes and clients prevent injuries and maximize all-around results by designing and implementing specialized training programs.

Students enrolled in this program will take core courses such as Essentials of Human Movement Science, Nutrition for Peak Performance, and Leadership and Professional Development. An additional four courses in Research in Rehabilitation, Corrective Exercise in Rehabilitation, Corrective Exercise Program Design, and Current Topics in Rehabilitation will also be required.

This program is specially designed for those who are already working in a related field: physical therapists, athletic trainers, coaches, etc. An online program is a good fit for currently practicing professionals because they can earn a degree while still maintaining their current career demands. This program would be beneficial for those with backgrounds in chiropractic offices, physical therapy clinics, athletic training rooms, and other related treatment settings.

This particular program will consist of 30 students, all who will participate via online class work and discussion to help facilitate learning. Students can take what they learn in the virtual classroom and apply new knowledge to their current career fields.

Students may begin this program in January or July. The January sequence will consist of a spring, summer I, summer II, and fall semester. The July sequence will encompass summer II, fall, spring, and summer I sessions.

    Students must have a minimum 3.0 undergraduate grade point average, based on a 4.0; students who do not meet the minimum GPA requirement but have a minimum GPA above a 2.50 may request consideration by submitting, via e-mail, a resume indicating their experience in the sport industry and a list of at least two professional references.
