Program Overview

In the Master of Education: Technology Education program offered by California University of Pennsylvania, students will learn about the processes and knowledge related to technology. This completely online, 5-semester program will cover the broad spectrum of technology, and promote technology development.

This program is of special value to already practicing teachers, for the reason that upon receiving a teaching certificate, teachers are often required to earn other certificates that will further their education. For example, Cal U states that teachers in Pennsylvania, in addition to their bachelor’s degrees, are required to obtain 24 extra credits.

Students are required to take two courses per semester in order to complete this 31-credit program. Since classes take five semesters to complete, a summer semester will be required as well. Students will also begin and end the program with the same group of peers. This encourages discussion and learning between the students rather than solely between students and faculty.

Some courses students will attend are Curriculum and Instruction in Technology Education, Strategic Management in Education, Study in Human Creativity, and Technology and Sustainable Development. A TED Major Project will also be required in the fifth and last semester.

The technology education program aims to research current trends in technology education, have a strategic educational program plan, and research and compare the impacts and consequences of technology in different environments.

Depending on the funding that is available, this particular department offers assistantships each year to online graduate students. As a graduate assistant, you will not teach classes, but you can sit in and supervise open laboratories for certain undergraduate courses. Graduate assistants may also take on special projects or research for faculty, the department, or the University.
