After completing this program, students will have a “jump start” if they wish to apply for National Board of Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) teaching because of how the program curriculum is designed. NBPTS has five core propositions to follow:

  • Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to teach those subjects to students
  • Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring student learning
  • Teachers think systematically about their practice and learn from experience
  • Teachers are members of learning communities
These propositions are items that all teachers should know and be able to do.

After graduating this program, students should be able to understand instruction strategies, research, technology, classroom management, leadership, and curriculum practices on a more advanced level. Some graduates have gone on to careers as principals, department chairs, reading specialists, curriculum specialists, and guidance counselors, as well as office administrative and service placement.
