Graduate Certificate - Administrative Program for Principals (K-12)
California University of Pennsylvania
California University of Pennsylvania (Cal U) offers a completely online program built around the goal of helping individuals earn their master’s degree in education and/or certification as a K-12 school principal. The program is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and meets state educational requirements for principal certification. This degree program also meets Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC) standards, and can be used to prove certification and some professional development requirements in other states.
Those students who already have earned a master’s degree may only need to fulfill the certification requirements through Cal U’s 24-credit K-12 principal certificate program without having to go through the entire master’s program. For those who do not already possess a master’s degree, an option to take the 30-credit Master of Education degree is available. This program includes all the requirements for certification as a K-12 school principal.
If an individual is from a different state other than Pennsylvania, certification may not be accepted by the individual's current state. The Department of Education in a potential student’s state should be contacted to see if this certification meets the necessary requirements in order to be accepted. This administrative program for principals (ADP) is also a great option for individuals (such as teachers and administrators) who want to improve their teaching and leadership skills.
Students enrolling in the 24 credit program will be taking courses such as School Community Relations Seminar, School Law and Ethics, and Educational Leadership. Those seeking a Master of Education Degree with K-12 Principal Certification, two additional 3-credit classes will be required: Supervised Field Project/Leadership and Supervised Field Project/Research and Evaluation.
