Exercise Science: Sport Psychology
A post masters certificate in Sport Psychology is available from California University of Pennsylvania for those who wish to improve their current practice methods. This completely online, 40-week certificate program consists of 12 credit hours and four classes. The four courses students will complete are Special Topics in Sport Psychology, Psychological Aspects of Sport Injury and Rehabilitation Psychological Perspectives in Sport Performance Enhancement and Intervention, and Research in Sport Psychology. These courses aim to assist health and fitness professionals by providing information to help recognize precursors to injuries, how to recuperate from an injury, and how to improve performance to prevent further injury.
Those with a certificate in sport psychology may already be involved in, or may wish to pursue working with athletes, coaches, and parents in terms of rehabilitation, communication, injuries, and team building. Some techniques that may be used in sport psychology are goal setting, imagery, pre-performance routines, self-talk, or stimulation regulation (listening to music, energizing cues, etc.).
Fitness and health programs are increasing in popularity because of the amount of time and money people are spending on fitness. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts employment in this general area will increase by 27% through 2014. Individuals who enroll in this sport psychology program are expected to find their own employment opportunities after completing the certificate program.
