Exercise Science: Rehabilitation Science
California University of Pennsylvania offers a health-care focused track in Exercise Science: Rehabilitation Science for those who wish to earn a post master’s certificate. This program is specifically designed for those fitness professionals who have backgrounds in settings such as chiropractic offices, physical therapy clinics, athletic training rooms, and other relevant treatment settings.
Rehabilitation science uses knowledge from health sciences, social sciences, and engineering to understand different processes within its own field. Those who practice rehabilitation science use knowledge from their education and experience to design a process to avoid injury. These individuals need to be very hands-on while working with clients. This also means such professionals should have great people skills as well as a lot of patience while working with clients.
Students will be enrolled in four courses, totaling 12 credit hours for this entire program. These four classes are Research in Rehabilitation, Corrective Exercise in Rehabilitation, Corrective Exercise Program Design, and Current Topics in Rehabilitation. In addition to courses, students will be prepared to take the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) certification.
After earning this certification, fitness and health professionals will be able to create specialized programs designed for each client or athlete depending on their wants and needs. Those in this field will need to effectively evaluate and identify a client’s strengths and setbacks. Designing programs to help prevent injuries, maximize results, or improve muscle balance are just a few of the abilities Corrective Exercise Specialists will have.
