Bachelor of Arts in Arabic Language and Culture
California University of Pennsylvania
A Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Arabic Language and Culture is focused on instilling relevant knowledge such as geography, culture, cuisine, religion, and language into enrolled students. At California University of Pennsylvania, an online program is offered for students to earn this degree over a four-year (eight semester) period.
Students would be taking 15 credits or less per semester. The first two semesters will consist of 100-level courses and general education, minor, or elective courses. Year two will have Intermediate Arabic I & II, plus general education courses. Year three students will take Advanced Arabic I & II, and general education courses. The final two semesters, students will be taking 9-12 credits of general education, minor, or elective classes each semester. Students are strongly encouraged to speak to their faculty advisors to make sure their current academic progress is where it needs to be to meet prerequisites for future courses.
The large emphasis for this program is on speaking, writing, and reading in Modern Standard Arabic. To help the learning process, enrolled students will receive a Rosetta Stone license that is valid for the course program. The major courses serve two major purposes: to improve Arabic language skills, and understand the Arabic culture on a more advanced level.
This entire program is completely online and, based on the given curriculum of required classes and general courses, requires 109-115 credits to graduate. As students begin in higher classes (such as those at the 200-level and above), they may wish to purchase Arabic language packs from Microsoft Office so they can type their assignments in Arabic instead of scanning them to the instructor. In addition, Arabic keyboards are available for purchase, but keyboard layover pads or Arabic keyboard stickers are also useful, and may be less expensive.
