Bachelor of Science in Recreation Management
California State University in East Bay offers the Bachelor of Science with a concentration in Recreation, which may be completed entirely through a virtual classroom, allowing students the flexibility to earn a degree to pursue advanced career opportunities. The College of Education and Allied Studies has created an online Recreation degree preparing students to become professionals in industries offering leisure to individuals seeking to experience the most out of life. The curriculum aims to develop a student’s understanding of the overall impact leisure activities have when contributing to local economy’s well-being. Students will learn about the basic practices of applying organization, planning and management to better capitalize on resources of travelers and tourists.
Leisure is a large income-producing sector of the world's economy and the hospitality/service industry is a prime employer of well qualified candidates suitable to work in a dynamic environment. Students of the BS program in Recreation will need to complete the required general education courses, a core curriculum of management and hospitality topics and complete a chosen area of concentration. The degree offers two concentrations within the program: Leisure Management and Recreation Therapy.
Graduates may use the learned academic foundation for immediate entry in the competitive service industry. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates may be able to pursue many positions involving varied responsibilities and endless opportunities. The BS in Leisure should enable graduates to create and execute programs, events, and experiences designed specifically for the cliental they seek.
