    School Overview

With a vision of “intercultural understanding,” the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) evolved in San Francisco in 1968 as an increasing number of students desired to learn from the founder, Dr. Haridas Chaudhuri. The private, not-for-profit institute emphasizes integral studies, merging Eastern and Western values, and teaches from a global perspective. The Institute awards bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. CIIS encourages distance learners to participate in online degrees or enroll in individual online courses. Online degree programs include the Master of Arts in Transformative Leadership and the PhD in Transformative Studies. Both online degree programs require two face-to-face meetings per year, one in August and another in January. Individual online classes may be completed for audit or credit purposes.
