Associate of Science in General Studies
California Coast University has made available to students the opportunity to earn a foundational education in liberal arts through a distance learning program. The distance learning option allows students to maintain current careers and residencies while attending online courses and classes at various higher education establishments. Students may earn the required credit units towards the Associate of Science degree in General Studies, while also gaining the academic and professionalism needed for success in future aspirations.
An associate of Science degree is based on a liberal arts area of study and delve into topics of interest related to a broad and general study of higher education. The goal of a liberal arts program is to produce a virtuous, knowledgeable and articulate person. The interdisciplinary curriculum is comprised of 20 courses, 12 core courses and eight electives, culminating in 60 semester units. Students may use the courses to further their understanding of topics for personal growth or for professional interests. The core courses cover areas of study such as The Human Body, Environmental Science, and Psychology of Adjustment.
In addition to the core Associate of Science degree courses, students have the option of choosing up to eight elective courses, to satisfy interests outside the required curriculum. The electives may be used to support current careers, or as the starting point for future educational pursuits at a Bachelor or Masters level degree. Liberal arts career opportunities may be some of the most necessary and respected careers and include professions in the arts, foreign languages, political sciences, biology, psychology and business.
