California Baptist University offers a Bachelor of Arts completion degree in Early Childhood Studies. The curriculum is 49 units: 27 units of upper core courses, 15 units of early childhood intervention concentration courses, and seven units of additional program courses. There are 12 optional units that students can take if they want to build their credentials. All students are to complete CST 100 and meet the Upper Christian Studies requirements. It is preferred that applicants have a minimum of 24 transferrable units.
The Early Childhood Studies coursework highlights the development and growth of young children in areas of cognitive, social, emotional, and perceptual-motor development. Students also explore the different types of assessments and appropriate learning environments for young students. The Early Childhood Studies program features a specialization in Early Childhood Intervention. This specialization prepares students to work with both non-disable and disabled students, of ages up to eight years. Students will learn how to teach in early learning environments, while integrating developmental learning theories in these settings.
Courses include topics of: curriculum, cognitive development, perceptual-motor development, children’s literature, research seminar, the exceptional child, cross cultural perspectives, and more. Students can complete these following courses to build their credentials, if desired: American Public Schools, Growth & Development, Language Structure & Acquisition, and Educational Computing I.
ECS graduates have pursued careers including, but not limited to: Child Care Liaisons, Child Life Specialists, Director-Child Education & Development Services, Director-Preschool, Early Childhood Education Center Manager, Early Childhood Executive, Directors/Directors, Early Childhood Family Development Specialists, Early Childhood Program Development Specialists, Early Childhood Quality Management Specialist, Early Intervention Specialist, and Early Intervention Program Autism Team Supervisor.
