Bachelors in Health Services Leadership
The Bachelors in Health Services Leadership degree offered by Buena Vista University is a program of study that is available to students in a completely online format. Since Health Care is quickly growing and changing, the demand for well prepared leadership that can keep up with technology, insurance, medicine, and patient care is also growing. This program seeks to equip its graduates with foundational skills and knowledge concerning technology, insurance, medicine, and patient care. This program combines a knowledge base in management, psychology, social work, and sociology in order to help the student acquire a broad understanding of the factors that can affect the operations of a health care organization. This program is intended for experienced health care providers such as nurses or other kinds of practitioners who wish to move onto management or leadership roles and want to gain an education to help support that movement. Employment opportunities available to graduates of this program include positions in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health departments, governmental agencies, and medical group practices.
The tracks of this program can be designed by the students in order to best fit their personal interests or career goals. Course substitutions may be made to fit those professional requirements or special interests.
This program requires its students to complete 128 credit hours of courses in order to graduate. The Health Services Leadership program is a distributive major that is comprised of 42 credit hours. The required courses are taken from interdisciplinary subjects in order to give students of this program a broadly informed education. Students must take courses in subjects such as Business, Communications, English, Psychology, Art, and History. Students must also complete a core of General Education courses that are necessary to a student’s Liberal Arts education and will help them to think critically and analyze effectively. Students must take courses in Mathematics, English, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, and the Humanities. These requirements are split up into the Intellectual Foundation, the Mathematics Foundation, the Written Communication Foundation, and the Intellectual Exploration Foundation.
