Program Details

Brenau University offers an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Studies as part of a program for students who have not chosen a specific major, but are interested in beginning their college careers and learning from a variety of fields, including the humanities, the sciences, social sciences, mathematics and other fields. Students will work on developing their foundational knowledge in addition to communication skills, creative thinking and critical thinking capacities by developing through work, practice, and research. The program is intended to provide students a basis for future studies by allowing them to choose courses which fit their interests in order to better understand their future goals.

Students will develop a general education through the program, focusing on liberal arts, natural and applied sciences, technology, and mathematics. Those classes include comparative cultures, religions of the world, art appreciation, applied statistics, earth science, environmental science, survey of health issues, principles of macroeconomics, introduction to psychology, theories of personality, principles of sociology, social psychology, introduction to the American political process, and management of organizations.

Upon completion of the program, students will have demonstrated the necessary educational qualifications for future studies.  These qualifications include but are not limited to the intention to transfer to four-year colleges in the liberal arts, the understanding of liberal arts areas prior to a commitment to a specific major, demonstrating an understanding necessary for pre-major preparation in a variety of fields, and maximize acceptance of general education courses by transfer colleges.
