MA Special Education - Option II w/Level II Credential
Qualified students who already hold the valid special education credentials can pursue the Master of Arts degree program concentrating on earning the Option II with Level II Credential. Students of the advanced program have the opportunity to utilize the various participating California campuses or attend classes through an entirely online learning format. The flexible degree program allows for students to maintain current teaching positions while gaining the additional education to advance to the next level of necessary credentials.
The Level II credentialing program is a challenging and rewarding educational pursuit. The overwhelming need for teachers in general, is amplified by the lack of teachers with the capabilities of teaching and providing support for children and young adults with learning disabilities. The specialized curriculum of student teachers aspiring to become advanced and designated special needs teachers, is highly dependents on the extensive schooling required to perform the processes involved in the individual planning and systematic monitoring of teaching procedures, adapting equipment and materials, ensuring accessible settings and many other aspects of special needs teaching.
Participating in the MA degree curriculum may provide student teachers with the advanced knowledge and skills to achieve a higher level of personal self-sufficiency and success within a school setting and in local communities. Special education often serve as advocates for social awareness of people with disabilities, as well as educators influencing their development and social interaction beyond the classroom. The MA program is designed to provide student teachers the resources needed to improve teaching strategies to enhance student performance.
Upon successful completion of the required 39 credits, satisfactory coursework and passing of minimum credentials, student teachers should be able to implement and promote multifaceted teaching strategies to meet the special needs of individual students. An overall objective of the Masters curriculum is to enhance a students professionalism as well as social skills and positive instruction for the betterment of a special needs students.

Applicants must complete the formal application process and all required documents:
1. Two letters of recommendation along with two waivers from individuals who are familiar with the applicants academic/professional ability to undertake graduate studies.
2. Must hold a valid Level I credential or Certificate of Eligibility (Level I) prior to admission.
Potential MA students should also satisfy one of the four admission requirements set forth by the University.
