Students interested in gaining the formal academic education in the study of the disciplines governing a society and the relationships among individuals within that society may partake in the flexible online and on campus program. The program is available at several California campuses, military bases, and completely online.

The term ‘social science’ is commonly used to describe the multifaceted areas of interest that can be specific or incredibly broad in topics related to how humans interact with other societies, as well as the influences of written and spoken word, media, history, laws, and many other factors. Social sciences are responsible for comprising many of the general education requirements of Brandman University and requirements at other colleges and universities, because they provide students with solid foundation for almost any current or future endeavor.

Students have the option of selecting three areas of concentration from the disciplines of: criminal justice, history, organizational leadership, political science, psychology, and sociology. The choice of concentrations can be personal or professional aspirations, or can serve as the foundation for a broad understanding of cultural diversity. Successful students should be able to apply the learned concepts to furthering educational pursuits or when entering fields of anthropology, economics, political science, psychology, sociology, history, law, linguistics, literature, and communications.

Potential graduates must complete the required 120 credits to earn the interdisciplinary degree in social science. Upon successful completion of the required courses and credits, graduates should be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of core developmental concepts as well as the ability to apply social sciences when applying critical decision making and analytical skills. Graduates should have the resources to blend the intricate social, political, cultural, economic, organizational, and technological processes that comprise a modern society.
