BA, Liberal Studies, Culture and Media Studies
Brandman University offers students the opportunity to earn an education in the concentration of Culture and Media Studies. Students may partake in the required courses via one of the many California campuses or completely online, allowing for non-traditional learners or students with busy careers to gain the advanced education.
The Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies degree program builds on essential liberal arts concepts necessary for the solid higher education foundation required by many individuals seeking personal or professional growth. The goal of the liberal arts program is to produce a virtuous, knowledgeable and articulate person. The extended curriculum, comprised of the culture and media studies courses may introduce students to intrinsic topics for success in a modern society.
The culture and media concentration gives students the resources and knowledge of the various ways humans create, value and behave to maintain a strong standing in history. Students should gain a deeper understanding of the sociological influences related to popular culture, government, economics, politics, visual and verbal language, literacy, ethnic and gender identities, technology and media.
In addition to the core liberal studies objectives students, students must also choose 12 credits from other areas of interest such as: art, communication, English, foreign languages, history, humanities, liberal studies, music, philosophy, and religious studies. Gradates must have completed the required 120 credits to earn this degree. Successful graduates should be able to use ethics and knowledge to analyze philosophical theory, local and global events, new media, American politics, and the impact of these many factors on an individual or as a society as a whole.
