Students wishing to pursue advanced educations in the field of law may wish to partake in Brandman University’s Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies program. Students have the opportunity to earn the needed credits towards the advanced education delving into essential topics when seeking entry into the competitive job market, or as the necessary formal academic credential to move within a current position.
Earning the BA degree in Legal Studies should build a student’s educational foundation for further educational aspirations or enhance concepts already learned from experiences. Students in the program may use the specialized coursework to enter the fields of criminal justice, administration, law enforcement, psychology or as assistants in law firms, legal aid organizations, a paralegal, government agencies, and many more.
A higher education in the area of legal studies should strengthen a student’s awareness of the essential concepts of criminal behavior and legalities behind judicial action. Successful students may also combine a legal studies concentration with additional degree pursuits in political science, economics, environmental studies or psychology to better attain personal and professional goals.
The BA degree program is 120 credits, comprised of foundational bachelor degree courses, core legal studies courses, and the student’s choice of electives. The core legal studies curriculum introduces concepts critical to a thorough understanding of: American Politics, Sociology, Social Research Design, and Constitutional Government. To culminate the bachelor programs objectives, the potential graduate must also complete a final capstone course that demonstrates and communicates a social science concept.
Potential graduates should be able to examine theory and investigate crucial relationships between power, democracy, punishment, rights and citizenship that are responsible for the effective display of security and civil rights. Successful graduates of the legal studies program may be able to show an advanced understanding of legal proceedings, administration abilities and also facilitate future career aspirations in becoming a lawyer, police officer, criminologist, federal agent, criminal psychologist, or legal advisor in a business setting.
