BA, Criminal Justice, Corrections
Brandman University has made available to students the opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice degree with the concentration in Corrections. Students may also choose to specialize their education in four other areas of criminal justice: Leadership, Homeland Security, Forensics or Victim Advocacy.
The process of corrections serves as the practice of law enforcement institutions where individuals found guilty of a charge will serve out a sentence. A corrections facility can be minimum or high security depending on the severity of the crime. Some guilty individuals can choose to serve out sentences on weekends or opt for house arrest. Corrections officers may assume positions as law enforcement agents trained to oversee prisons, jails, or holding facilities. Students seeking to gain the specific understanding of the corrections process should use the BA in Criminal Justice degree supplemented with the core corrections courses introducing topics of interest such as Applied Criminology, Community Corrections and Alternative Sentences, and Gangs and Gang Behavior.
Students are required to complete 120 credits to successfully earn the bachelor's designation with a concentration in corrections. Graduates may be able to apply the criminal justice degree and corrections focus when seeking positions as law enforcement and contributing to the safety and protection of a society. The multi-faceted program of study should give graduates the academic curriculum needed for a broad understanding of the discipline. Upon successful completion of the BA program requirements, graduates should be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the criminal justice field during the final capstone course at the culmination of the program. Successful students should also be able to use the learned concepts to examine criminal behaviors in dynamic social settings.
