Associate of Arts (A.A.) in General Education
Brandman University has made available to undergraduate students the opportunity to earn credits towards the Associate of Arts (AA) in General Education degree. The AA program may be completed through a variety of avenues, allowing students to attend one of the many California classrooms and the four select military bases in California and Washington, as well as completely online.
The foundational Associate of Arts degree may be viewed as a liberal arts education. The courses should introduce students to the general knowledge of concepts related to the fine arts, humanities, the natural and social sciences, literature and mathematics. Earning the AA degree in General Education may give students the knowledge to participate in many types of professional organizations, in addition to the learned skills to become assets when advancing in current positions.
The goal of the liberal arts studies is to produce a virtuous, knowledgeable and articulate person. The curriculum requires the student to complete 60 credits; comprised of 12 credits of Basic Skills, 24 credits in Breadth Requirements, 6 credits in Liberal Education Foundations and the student’s choice of 18 credits in electives.
A Liberal Arts degree may be used as a general course of study and emphasizes matters not relating to technical curricula. Liberal arts students may seek career opportunities within some of the most necessary and respected careers and include professions that require education at the university level. Upon successful completion of the associate program, students should be prepared for entry into the workforce, advancement in current careers, or have the foundation for a baccalaureate education. Successful graduates may apply the learned concepts when providing written and oral communication, quantitative decision making, working in multicultural settings with diverse individuals, and the culmination of strategically blending all learned concepts to personal and professional endeavors.
