Program Overview

Bluefield College offers a Degree in E-Business and Entrepreneurship for students interested in business whose professional interests involve entrepreneurship in the utilization of the Internet for business opportunities. The program is designed to be an introductory opportunity for development of technology knowledge. Students will learn through the combination of basic technical studies and specialization in business activities such as strategic planning, marketing planning, security planning, and financial and economic issues in e-business. Through the program, students will learn to utilize their technical knowledge and business knowledge in development of new enterprises as an entrepreneur. As an entrepreneur, students will work to develop or improve products or services.

Students will learn about business principles and practices, as well as the development of principles and practices for online businesses opportunities as entrepreneurs. The curriculum consists of 36 credit hours of courses, which include business plans for the entrepreneur, new ventures for the entrepreneur, and franchising for the entrepreneur.

Individuals completing the program should have the skills and the qualifications needed of entrepreneurs, which include the ability to design appropriate software system structures in response to application needs, organizational environment, and technical ecology. Students should also be able to make appropriate design choices based on system, service, and business process needs, as well as analyze social, legal, ethical, and professional issues in business and technical decision-making. Other qualifications include employing the best communication practices with business partners, users, customers, and third-party providers, as well as using sound evaluation practices to select appropriately among competing technologies and technical approaches. The last ability includes managing business processes through analysis, design, and optimization in response to organizational needs.

    School Overview

    Established by the Baptist General Association, Bluefield admitted its first students in 1922. Today, Bluefield College is a four-year, private, not-for-profit institution of higher learning, located in the southwestern city of Bluefield, Virginia. Bluefield College’s Online Degree Program provides accredited distance education options for adult students that feature accelerated formats, allowing students with necessary credits to earn a degree in 13 months. Distance education degrees include studies in three schools:

    • School of Nursing
