Founded in 1972, Black River Technical College is a two-year, public institution of higher education, with a main campus location in the city of Pocahontas, Arkansas. In addition to the main campus, the college has a second campus located in Paragould. Black River Technical College states the following mission: “Blending tradition, technology and innovation to educate today’s diverse students for tomorrow's changing world.”
Associate’s degrees and certificate programs are housed in six academic departments. Black River Technical College offers an Associate of Arts in General Studies completely online, in addition to a number of hybrid degree and certificate programs. Distance education classes provide needed flexibility for students that desire to complete an associate’s degree, one-year technical certificate, or a one-semester certificate of proficiency at Black River Technical College. For most programs, at least fifty percent of the components are available at a distance, though most core classes must be completed on the campus. Express, or accelerated, classes allow students to complete coursework within four to eight weeks, and offer the same standards as that of traditional, on-campus counterparts.
