Associate of Arts in Religious Studies
As an undergraduate degree, the Associate of Arts in Religious Studies provides students the introductory education in biblical and theological concepts for entry-level positions in a church, ministry or missionary; or as the prelude to gaining the Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies. This associates program is ideal for students seeking to gain a solid understanding of the Christian religion, and the knowledge needed to communicate professionally to institutions and organizations.
The religious studies program should prepare men and women for church related ministries, teaching the biblical theories, and providing pastoral training in a diverse community. The degree should also give students the knowledge and skills to promote their Christian education to others in non-religious settings. Students should gain an understanding of the Bible, as well as the impact written scripture has on contemporary theology.
The degree delves into core biblical and theological concepts necessary for students to defend the Christian religion with a working knowledge of a variety of topics. The required program courses cover subject areas of communications, general studies, religious electives, the student’s choice of electives, and the core religion courses. This particular associate program provides students with applicable skills with the focus on Bible studies in such subjects as: Hermeneutics, Apocalyptic Literature, and New Testament Epistles and Apologetics.
Upon successful completion of the associate program, students should be able to enhance their educational experience by participating in positions related to spreading faith, enlightening personal growth, and developing a solid understanding of the scripture and the applications in professional environments. Additionally, students may also use the education when articulating a necessary defense for Christianity against scientism, historical criticism, philosophy, cults, and non-Christian religions. The religious studies degree may serve as the formal education to serve a local or foreign community in positions of ministry, pastoral duties and as missionaries. The foundational education should prepare students to engage in biblical interpretation while also exhibiting a strong knowledge of the scripture as applicable across many facets of a personal and professional life.
