Program Overview

Berkeley College offers a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in General Business for students who want to study a variety of fields in business in order to best understand their interests in the field of business. Individuals, through studying, will gain the necessary skills to be functional in the market place and to develop interests in different roles and industries. By choosing a general program, students will be immediately ready for employment in most entry-level positions and will have a functional understanding of all areas of a business environment.

The program consists of classroom courses which emphasize real-world education through examination of cases and education which will be applicable on the job. Those classes include computer applications in business, business strategy and policy, principles of management, multimedia and business presentations, fundamentals of accounting for managers, principles of finance, business law, career management, business organization and management, managerial accounting, principles of marketing, international business, statistics, macroeconomics, microeconomics, psychology, college algebra, and mathematics with business applications.

Through completion of the program, students will have demonstrated the professionalism and skill necessary to have earned their degree. The qualifications demonstrate that the student has been able to apply the principles they have learned in the program into their eventual development as a functional affective professional in their field.  These qualifications include but are not limited to: the ability to demonstrate proficiency in the fundamental business principles and practices that enable firms to operate in both domestic and global environments, to employ critical-thinking and analysis skills to solve business problems in a real-world context, to analyze ethical issues that impact business decisions from economic, political, legal, and social perspectives, and to describe the ways in which diversity influences a company’s ability to achieve its goals.

    School Overview

    During the Great Depression, women attended Berkeley College, in New York City, to learn vital executive secretarial skills. First established by Alyea M. Brick in 1931, Berkeley added a two-year secretarial program awarding college credit and then opened a second campus in 1936. With the introductions of computers and new technologies, Berkeley College expanded horizons, adding additional campus locations, increasing the number of academic programs, and admitting male students by 1977. Today, the private, for-profit Berkeley College maintains three campus locations in New York and six locations in New Jersey in addition to Berkeley College Online. Students can pursue associate’s and bachelor’s degrees, along with certificate programs.

    Berkeley College Online offers degree programs for non-traditional students and students requiring added flexibility. Courses are delivered asynchronous, and students complete weekly assignments at their pace and have access to coursework 24/7. Typical online classes include reading and writing assignments, in addition to discussion boards and possible online group projects.
