Program Details

Bergen Community College offers an online history degree, the Associate in Arts in Liberal Arts, with a concentration in History.  This degree is designed for students interested in learning the knowledge, values, and skills that are unique to history degrees and who intend to transfer to a four-year history or liberal arts program.  You will take courses in Western Civilization, European History, US History, Latin American History, and Geography, as well as general education courses.  Students gain skills in communication that allow them to consider a diversity of viewpoints, construct and defend theses, and narrate events from the past.  You will also learn to use primary and secondary sources while evaluating their perspective and bias, apply a methodological practice when working with historical evidence, identify historical change and continuity, and recognize the important political, intellectual, social, and cultural forces that shaped our past.
