Bachelor of Science in Accounting
Bemidji State University offers a Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree for students who are interested in learning the principles and procedures of accounting, either to work as an accountant, or for the utilization of the knowledge of accounting for management or entrepreneurship. Students will learn about the fundamentals of accounting, as well as the different types of accounting systems and technology available. Students will learn about the role of accountants in business as well as developing the legal and ethical understanding of the profession.
The program consists of classroom courses which emphasize real-world education through examination of cases and education, which will be applicable on the job. Those classes include computer business applications, intermediate accounting, management, marketing, cost accounting, financial management, government accounting, business law, advanced accounting, strategic management, auditing, decision support systems, management information systems, and income taxes.
Through completion of the program, students will have demonstrated the professionalism and skill necessary to earn the Master of Science degree. The qualifications demonstrate that the student has been able to apply the principles they have learned in the program into their eventual development as a functional affective professional in their field. These qualifications include but are not limited to: the ability to demonstrate proficiency in the fundamental business principles and practices, to employ critical-thinking and analysis skills to solve business problems in a real-world context, to analyze ethical issues that impact business decisions from economic, political, legal, and social perspectives, to describe the ways in which diversity influences a company’s ability to achieve its goals, and to evaluate the application of technology as a strategy for competitive advantage in business.
