Program Overview

The Liberal Studies major from Bellevue University is a cross-disciplinary program that provides a broad education that helps students develop the skills that will lead to success in lifelong learning and professional advancement. Students will learn self assessment, strong group processes, and creation and innovation essential to a rapidly changing world.

The purpose of the Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree is to provide students with a solid multidisciplinary preparation in the Humanities Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and the Arts subsequently allowing them to pursue careers in education, business, government, and other such fields. The goal of a liberal studies major is to train students to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to develop skills in critical thinking and problem solving, and to imbue critical thinking with ethical thought. Liberal studies provides students with opportunities for an extensive study of the liberal arts and sciences and for a broad understanding of various academic fields of interest.

    Bellevue is a private, non-profit university that was originally founded by Bill Brooks, a Bellevue, Nebraska Chamber of Commerce member, in 1966. The institution later became Bellevue University in 1994. In 1996, Bellevue was one of the first accredited universities to offer online degree programs and the very first to offer an online Masters of Business Administration degree.

    Bellevue University offers classes for degree completion ranging from bachelor's level to doctoral level. With 12 locations in five states, including its main suburban campus in Bellevue, Nebraska, as well as classes worldwide through its online learning platform, students have a variety of options in which they can complete their degrees.
