Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Accounting promotes identification with, and orientation to, the accounting profession and is designed to provide knowledge and skills necessary to an accounting career.  In addition to the key accounting course work at the introductory and intermediate levels, critical areas of study including auditing and taxation are taught in the program.  The importance of ethics and international issues are emphasized throughout the curriculum, along with core competencies in technology and communication. The program utilizes specific accounting problem-solving software to provide students with practical knowledge of the accounting field.

The program also addresses the goals of professional values, communications and leadership skills, strategic and critical thinking skills, and technology skills of the professional accounting environment. This program is consistent with generally accepted accounting principles, including the accounting processes and knowledge areas that lead to professional certification. The 4 + 1 Accounting program at Bellevue University provides a smooth transition from the undergraduate degree in Accounting to the MBA with the Accounting Concentration. The program may allow students to reduce the number of hours needed in-residency in their major in order to grant them early placement in the MBA program.

To gain admittance to the program, students will need to complete the application form, and complete the requirements. During their junior or senior year at Bellevue University, students will arrange a degree completion program with an Accounting Advisor, which will be approved by the Director of Accounting. Upon completion of the 4 + 1 degree undergraduate requirements, students will be admitted to the MBA with Accounting Concentration program. Under the 4 + 1 program, students may apply for the undergraduate diploma after completing 6 hours of graduate coursework in accounting as approved by the Director of Accounting.

    Bellevue is a private, non-profit university that was originally founded by Bill Brooks, a Bellevue, Nebraska Chamber of Commerce member, in 1966. The institution later became Bellevue University in 1994. In 1996, Bellevue was one of the first accredited universities to offer online degree programs and the very first to offer an online Masters of Business Administration degree.

    Bellevue University offers classes for degree completion ranging from bachelor's level to doctoral level.
