Program Overview

People across the country, and the world, have seen the benefit of nonprofits for years. Non-profit industries are about doing good – they focus on the end result, the service, and the impact as opposed to profit generation. For this reason, many persons seeking a career change to a more intrinsically beneficial career have found themselves joining the nonprofit sector. Bay Path University's master’s degree program in Nonprofit Management & Philanthropy (NMP) is designed for professionals hoping to enter, or already involved in, the nonprofit sector.

The purpose of Bay Path’s NMP program is to prepare persons to be leaders in the nonprofit sector. Through the program, students will develop an understanding of nonprofit best practices, like management and leadership strategies, fiscal responsibility, board governance, fundraising, volunteer management, and the many other facets that make up the sector. One of the program’s main emphases is on helping organizations become financially independent. With this financial independence, organizations are better able to focus on fulfilling their mission as opposed to worrying about finances and funding.

Classes focus both on in-class and in-the-field learning, ensuring students see the relevance of what they learn in real-world scenarios.  The program culminates with a capstone research project. Students choose a topic based on their professional/personal interests and use their research to demonstrate their understanding of the program’s teachings.

The NMP program requires students to complete 36 credits (12 classes) to earn their degree. Of those classes, eight (24 credits) will be in the program’s core classes and four (12 credits) will be electives of the students choosing. For their elective options, students can choose between NMP classes as well as from the array of Higher Education Administration (HEA) degree elective courses.

Persons interested in learning more about the NMP degree are encouraged to take advantage of Bay Path’s information webinars. For information and schedules on these webinars, students should consult the program’s webpage.

    School Overview

Bay Path University, located on a 48 acre campus in the historic town of Longmeadow, Massachusetts, is a private women’s college that was founded in 1897. At the time of its founding, Bay Path was located in Springfield, Massachusetts, and existed as a co-educational college that offered degrees in accounting, secretarial science, business teacher training and business administration.  The college moved its location to Longmeadow, Massachusetts, in 1945, at which time it became a single-sex institution, enrolling only women.

Bay Path has an online program that is available for both men and women and is a flexible and supportive option for working adults that aspire to earn a degree, but are not able to attend campus classes due to their busy schedules. Students in the online program have the option of attending solely online, or if they are able to attend some classes on campus, they can combine the campus classes and online classes.
