Associate of Arts (A.A.)
The Associate of Arts program at Azusa Pacific University is designed to prepare students for entry-level work or future study at the baccalaureate level at either APU or another accredited institution. This program may act as a stepping-stone into various bachelor degree programs at the university. Students should receive a rounded liberal arts education on which they may build future study or success.
Azusa Pacific University is a faith-based institution, so the curriculum of the AA program integrates faith and knowledge in order to prepare students through a Christian worldview. This means giving a foundation for responsible citizenship, historical and cultural literacy and therefore an appreciation of context, and respect for God-honoring diversity. This program may be completed entirely online, the flexibility of which is intended to aid working students with demanding schedules.
In this program, students will attempt to establish habits and skills that aid in both lifelong learning and life in general. To complete the program and earn the Associate of Arts Degree, students must complete a 60-credit curriculum. Of this total, 18 credits go towards the section of skills and university requirements, which prepare students for future classes. This includes topics such as written composition and basic software tools. As this is an arts degree, students must also complete four to six credits in any one foreign language in order to demonstrate proficiency.
Finally, 31 credits go towards Integrative Liberal Arts core requirements and the remaining five to seven credits are applied to general electives chosen by the student. The LA core is divided into sections, each consisting of their own credit totals and course options. Sections include Heritage and Institutions, Literature, and Identity and Relationships, among others.
