Program Overview

Students with an interest in pursuing careers in an area related to mental health may be ideal for the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology Degree from Avila University. The psychology program focuses on helping students understand human interaction through observation and study. The general education core focuses on fundamental areas of liberal arts, the humanities, and social and behavioral sciences. Psychology-specific classes include life span development, research methods, cognitive psychology, abnormal psychology, conflict resolution and more.

    School Overview

    Avila University is a four-year, private Catholic university directly affiliated with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, and located in Kansas City, Missouri. The school’s roots date back to 1836, when the first sisters of Saint Joseph arrived in the United States from Lyons to open a school for the deaf. By 1866, Saint Joseph’s Academy opened, and it would later become Avila University. To date, the college offers more than 60 undergraduate majors and concentrations as well as six graduate programs. Avila University’s mission states that the school “is a values-based community of learning providing liberal arts, professional, undergraduate and graduate education to prepare students for responsible lifelong contributions to the global community.”

    The Avila Advantage program offers accelerated online bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, and graduate certificates that provides flexibility for working professionals. Distance learning courses are formatted in self-paced, eight-week sessions that begin monthly. While some programs may require on-campus, intensive weekend components, others are delivered completely online.
