Program Overview

The Master of Arts in Corporate Communication Degree from Austin Peay State University is designed for current business professionals working in the communication industry. The program is intended to prepare individuals for managerial and supervisory roles in their current or intended place of employment. The program was created with experienced business communicators in mind, though those with less experience are still welcome to apply.

This program is able to be completed entirely online, through the fast-track plan of study, though students may be able to complete it through the traditional professional-track as well. This distance format is ideal for working professionals in need of flexible coursework and access to support and materials. Graduates should be prepared to apply for positions in integrated marketing communication, which includes advertising, sales, and public relations. Individuals may also go on to doctoral study in the field of communication.

To complete this program, those enrolled must earn a total of 34 hours of credit. 13 credits come from a set of required core courses including Communication Research Methods, Applied Communication Theory, and Integrated Corporate Communication. Students will also need to participate in a Proseminar in Communication. 3 or six credits come from the research component and the remaining 15 to 18 from additional communications electives.

The research component requires the completion of either a Research Project or Master's Thesis, depending on a student's intent or strengths. Typically, those seeking employment upon graduation opt for the Research Project, while those that wish to pursue doctoral study complete the thesis. The thesis is six credits, requiring 15 hours of electives, while the research project is 3 and requiring 18 hours of electives.
