Program Overview

The online Master of Arts in Education degree program from Augustana University is offered to those who hold a bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in education and are eligible for licensure. The program involves five academic sessions taken over a 19-month period. Courses are taken in a sequential manner, meaning the courses should be taken in the order offered. 30 course credits are required for graduation – 21 credits are taken in core classes and the remaining nine credits are taken in a concentration selected by the student.

The online Master of Arts in Education degree program is offered to those who hold a bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in education and are eligible for licensure. This program features three areas of concentration. First is Technology, which is a focus on utilizing and implementing technology to enhance student learning. Next is Instructional Strategies, which is a focus on practical applications to support student achievement and engagement. Lastly is Special Populations, which is a focus on how to support and teach at-risk students, with an emphasis on Autism, Response to Intervention (RTI) and emotional/behavioral issues. The concentration courses in this master's program are provided in partnership with Learner's Edge, Inc.

In addition to enhancing students abilities to create positive learning environments for students, in most cases a master’s degree correlates to increased compensation. Also, because the program is online, it will offer the convenience students need to continue their busy lifestyle while completing their degree requirements. Areas of focus include philosophical, historical, psychological and social foundations of curriculum as well as curriculum design, development, implementation and evaluation. Course includes a review of international curriculum trends and issues.
