Program Details

Athabasca University’s online master’s in Counseling meets academic requirements for professional counselors and counseling psychologists. Students will take core classes in fundamentals of counseling psychology and can choose a specialization in Counseling Psychology.

This online Counseling degree does require a 3-week in-person summer institute in Calgary, Canada, and two long weekend practicum seminars in Alberta, Canada. The remainder of the degree can be completed online in grouped study, with defined start and end dates.

Students will learn topics including:

  • Intervening to facilitate client change
  • Socioeconomic and systemic influences
  • Professional ethics
  • Assessment processes
