Asbury Theological Seminary was founded more than 80 years ago “to prepare and send forth a well-trained, sanctified, Spirit-filled, evangelistic ministry” in order to spread scriptural holiness around the world. Asbury Seminary continues to hold to this mission, providing holistic ministerial preparation as a multi-denominational, evangelical seminary serving nearly 100 different denominations. Rooted in the Wesleyan tradition, they emphasize the Bible, spiritual formation and discipleship.
Asbury Seminary offers certificates, master's degrees, and doctoral degrees. The organization of five schools at Asbury paints a broad picture of the areas of study the Seminary offers:
School of Biblical Interpretation
School of Practical Theology
School of Theology and Formation
School of Urban Ministries
E. Stanley Jones School of World Mission and Evangelism
Many courses from the Seminary’s degree programs are available through the Extended Learning program (ExL). Students who take advantage of the ExL program find that taking courses online provides them with greater flexibility in earning a degree or certificate than attending classes on a geophysical campus. The ExL program offers the opportunity to earn the certificate of Christian studies, up to two-thirds of the Master of Divinity degree, or up to one-half of a Master of Arts degree online through three semesters each year.
