Program Overview

Cybercrime has become a rapidly growing epidemic in the last two decades.  New developments in how to fight against crimes like identity theft, digital hacking and money laundering continue to be released each month. Armstrong Atlantic State University is one of the first schools to offer a unique continuing education program dedicated to teaching students about Cyber Crime. Armstrong’s Online Cyber Affairs and Security Certificate can be completed entirely online.  This inter-disciplinary program will teach students emerging technologies and methodologies in cyber security such as information assurance, computer forensics and Internet-related investigations.  Graduates will be able to use the knowledge learned in this program in professions such as forensic science technician, military services, detective, corrections and as administrators for alternative incarceration programs.

A baccalaureate degree with a minimum 2.5 grade point average is required for entry into this advanced learning program. Students will also need to submit a letter of intent to the Armstrong Cyber Crime Department staff. This letter must feature the student’s intended path of education and professional career.

Once admitted, students will choose 6 out of the following available courses: Cyber Security, Cyber Security II, Cyber Forensics, Special Topics in Criminal Investigation, Rules of Evidence/Legal Aspects of Cyber Security, First Responder Tools, Practicum I and Practicum II. After students have finished 18 credits with a minimum GPA of 3.0 they will be awarded the Online Cyber Affairs and Security Certificate of study. The faculty administering the online courses are the exact same as those teaching the on-campus classes. This insures that online students receive the same education as those who attend classes on-campus. Armstrong’s cyber crime faculty is made up of seasoned and experienced professionals who have spent years working with cyber crime tools and systems.
