A degree currently offered by Armstrong Atlantic State University may be of interest to certified medical laboratory technicians looking to gain advanced education. The Medical Laboratory Science: MLT to MLS Career Ladder Program offered by the university is open to currently operating medical laboratory technicians. Through this program laboratory technicians will be able to satisfy the eligibility requirements for a professional certification examination at the Medical Laboratory Scientist level. In addition, students will be able to move from clinical laboratory science fields to education or management positions. Many alumni are currently employed at organizations such as Memorial University Medical Center, American Red Cross, Siemens, Bio-Rad and the Lewis Cancer and Research Pavilion
The program has the potential to be completed in 16 months and is available entirely online; this gives working students the ability to choose their own schedule and to do so in a fast and efficient manner. The 48 credit hours taken at Armstrong include advanced technician courses that are designed to prepare students for the Medical Laboratory Scientist examination. These classes include Clinical Bacteriology, Clinical Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Phlebotomy Practicum, Clinical Pathways, and Laboratory Management and Education.
To be admitted, individuals must possess a SAT score of at least 830; with a 400 in Math and at least a 430 in Verbal. The school also has prior credit requirements which are as follows: A minimum of 20 semester hours of biological science, 12 semester hours of chemistry and a minimum of two college mathematics courses including statistics. Individuals who wish to apply are advised to contact a science advisor at Armstrong to insure that they possess the proper educational transcripts for admission. Science courses must have been completed with a grade point average of 2.5 or better with no more than one required science course with a grade of D.

-a minimum of two college mathematics courses (Statistics is required.)
- Science course (chemistry and biology) average of 2.5 or better, with no more than one required science course with a grade of "D"
Armstrong Atlantic State University (Armstrong) was founded in 1935 in Savannah, Georgia as Armstrong Junior College. The objective of this institution was to enhance educational opportunities in the area. In 1959, it became part of the University System of Georgia and eventually, in 1964, the Board of Regents approved it to become Armstrong State College. In 1966, the college added professional and graduate programs and became Armstrong Atlantic State University.
