Individuals looking for a quick and flexible continued education in Medical Laboratory science may want to consider Armstrong Atlantic State University's Medical Laboratory Science BS Degree. This completely online program is designed for students who have already received a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or a science-related field. After completion, students will be eligible to pass the professional certification exam for the Medical Laboratory Science level given by the Medical Laboratory Scientists of the American Society of Clinical Pathology.
The program is a combination of online assignments and training experience in a clinical laboratory. This delivery format provides students with not only an in-depth education on current laboratory advancements but a chance to see these in action and implement learned techniques and skills. Students will have the option of attending an internship in Savannah, where Armstrong is located, or one of several out of state locations. The entire program has the ability to be completed in 16 months, giving students who are eager to start a career an excellent method of expediting their education.
Along with the internship, students will be expected to complete 57 semester credits of online courses. These classes will insure students will have the knowledge of the prevention, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of physiological and pathological conditions. The classes offered include Urinalysis and Body Fluids, Clinical Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Clinical Microbiology, Phlebotomy Practicum, laboratory Management and Immunoserolgy.
In order to be admitted into this program, students must have passed the SAT exam with 830. Individuals must also have a bachelor's degree in a science related field that was earned with a cumulative grade point average of 2.4 or more. Within the completed bachelor's degree, a minimum of completed classes must include 20 hours of biological science, 12 hours of chemistry (both general and organic) and a minimum of two college mathematics courses.

a minimum of 20 semester hours biological science, to include microbiology
a minimum of 12 semester hours of chemistry, to include general and organic and/or biochemistry
a minimum of two college mathematics courses (Statistics is required.)
- Science course (chemistry and biology) average of 2.5 or better, with no more than one required science course with a grade of "D"
Students must attend a on-site clinical internship. The location of the clinic will be in Savannah but students may request an out-of-state internship position.
Armstrong Atlantic State University (Armstrong) was founded in 1935 in Savannah, Georgia as Armstrong Junior College. The objective of this institution was to enhance educational opportunities in the area. In 1959, it became part of the University System of Georgia and eventually, in 1964, the Board of Regents approved it to become Armstrong State College. In 1966, the college added professional and graduate programs and became Armstrong Atlantic State University.
