Program Details

The Armstrong Atlantic State University currently offers an Adult Education and Community Leadership Graduate Certificate program. This program will allow individuals working in the Adult Education field the knowledge needed to become leaders and innovators within their community. Adult education is currently the fastest growing areas of education, with almost 45 percent of adults completing it at some point in their lives.  Armstrong seeks to give educators in this field a leg up by teaching them the tools needed to develop practices that address the developmental needs of individuals in adult education programs. Graduates will learn skills that offer opportunities in the following fields:  military education, educational leadership, program director, correctional education, medical training, social work, leaders of faith-based organizations, athletic training and corporate training. This program is also great prep-work for pursuing a master’s degree in adult education.

The curriculum for this program consists of 12 credits spread out among four advisor-approved courses. Students will choose from a wide variety of adult education related courses based on interests. Armstrong offers intensive classes in topics such as Psychology of the Adult Learner, Cultural Diversity in Adult Education, Research and Grant Writing in Adult Learning, Communication Skills in Low Literate Adults, Online Learning Environments, Multimedia Design, Organizational Theory, and Leadership Behavior.
