Arizona State University Online offers a Master of Science in Engineering in Software Engineering for students who are interested in the process of creation of software for computers, mobile devices, and information systems. Students will learn how to work as a software engineer or as a software task leader on small or large projects. The program will address major software development methodologies, techniques, tools, and processes for both developing and managing software projects.
The program consists of classroom courses that emphasize real-world education through examination of cases and education that will be applicable on the job. Those classes include compiler construction, systems programming, distributed software development, software integration and engineering, design and analysis of algorithms, theory of formal languages, logic for computing scientists software analysis and design, introduction to human computer interaction, software quality assurance and testing, information assurance, computer systems security, and data and information security.
Through completion of the program, students will have demonstrated the professionalism and skill necessary to earn the degree. The qualifications demonstrate the student has been able to apply the principles learned in the program into their eventual development as a functional affective professional in their field. These qualifications include the ability to apply core information technology principles and practices, to apply best software engineering principles and practices to develop and maintain stable, secure, scalable, and maintainable software, and to recommend appropriate information technology solutions based on organizational needs and an evaluation of alternatives.
