Arizona State University Online offers a Master of Liberal Studies for students who are interested in studying multiple disciplines and fields to understand human ideas in philosophy, history, written and spoken literature, the arts and other fields. Students will learn about the humanities with political, religious, social and scientific contexts. The program will emphasize areas chosen by the student, including gender, religion, culture, science, nature, and creative nonfiction writing, health, and cultural identity. The program prepares students for future studies in doctoral of liberal arts and the humanities and other fields related to human history and culture.
The program consists of classroom courses that emphasize real-world education through examination of cases and education that will be applicable on the job. Classes include: comparative sociology, political sociology, global social movements, history of social thought, studies in American literature and culture, studies in 20th century British and Irish literature and culture, studies in American romanticism, experimental narrative, the British novel, gender and literature, contemporary women writers, and studies in film.
Through completion of the program, students will have demonstrated the professionalism and skill necessary to earn the degree. The qualifications demonstrate the student has been able to apply the principles learned in the program into their eventual development as a functional affective professional. These qualifications include the ability to demonstrate acquired skills and knowledge in general education, to demonstrate basic knowledge in bible and ministry which will provide the basis for further study, to demonstrate a basic knowledge in several areas of liberal studies, and to develop a broad foundation for advanced studies.
