Master of Engineering Area of Study: Modeling and Simulation
Arizona State University Online offers a Master of Engineering in Modeling and Simulation for students who want to develop an understanding of prototyping and simulation systems that are the background of nearly all technical disciplines. Experts in this field are in high demand in aeronautics, defense, engineering, computer science, automotive, disaster planning, and any other field where collecting research data is impractical and simulations are used to provide usable data for interpretation. Students will learn about stat- of-the-art advances in engineering, modeling, and simulations and their applications.
The program consists of classroom courses that emphasize real-world education through examination of cases and education that will be applicable on the job. Those classes include operating systems, information assurance and security, combinatorial algorithms and intractability, randomized and approximation algorithms, theory of computation, model and simulation theory and application, software requirements and specification, software design, and artificial intelligence.
Through completion of the program, students will have demonstrated the professionalism and skill necessary to earn the degree. The qualifications demonstrate that the student has been able to apply the principles they have learned in the program into their eventual development as functional affective professional.
These qualifications include the ability to apply core information technology principles and practices, to apply best software engineering principles and practices to develop and maintain stable, secure, scalable, and maintainable software, and work in geographically dispersed teams to produce effective solutions to complex information technology problems. Other qualifications include the ability to recommend appropriate information technology solutions based on organizational needs and an evaluation of alternatives, to identify and discuss professional, individual, organizational, societal, and regulatory implications of information systems and technology, and to select technologies, policies, and procedures to assure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information and IT systems.
