Master of Education-Curriculum and Instruction: Teaching and Learning, Gifted Education Focus
Arizona State University Online offers a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction in Teaching and Learning with a Focus on Gifted Education for students and educators, psychologists, behavioral analysts, and early interventionists who are interested in the role of working with gifted students with exceptional qualities as they develop. Students will learn how to work with young children and analyze their behavior and progress to recognize patterns which could be the basis of future exceptional needs or exceptional abilities.
The program consists of classroom courses that emphasize real-world education through examination of cases and education that will be applicable on the job. Those classes include foundations in typical and atypical child development, social and emotional development of the young child, classroom organization and child guidance, assessment and evidence based practice, communication, language development, and emergent literacy, system, policy, and advocacy in early childhood and special education, family, community and professional support systems, and evaluation and intervention strategies for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers with disabilities.
Through completion of the program, students will have demonstrated the professionalism and skill necessary to earn the degree. The qualifications demonstrate the student has been able to apply the principles they learned in the program into their eventual development as a functional affective professional. These qualifications include the ability to demonstrate knowledge of the current literature and trends in education, to evaluate, synthesize, and interpret educational research, to utilize effective communication skills in presenting academic research so as to elicit social change, and to demonstrate the capability and knowledge necessary for working with developmentally challenged or developmentally gifted students and recognize their potentials.
