Program Details

Arizona State University Online offers a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice for students and professionals who are interested in leadership or advanced positions in law, law enforcement, or criminal justice systems. Students will learn about the various research methods, statistics, program planning and management, policy analysis, and program evaluation systems used in criminal justice, as well as the agencies of the criminal justice system and the roles of professionals in the system.

The program consists of classroom courses that emphasize real-world education through examination of cases and education that will be applicable on the job. Those classes include drugs and crime, procedural criminal law, domestic terrorism, violence in America, community corrections, domestic violence, gangs, white collar crime, organized crime, discretionary justice, research methods, statistical tools for criminology and criminal justice, theory and practice in criminal justice, and criminal justice planning and program evaluation.

Through completion of the program, students will have demonstrated the professionalism and skill necessary to earn the degree. The qualifications demonstrate that the student has been able to apply the principles learned in the program into their eventual development as a functional affective professional.

These qualifications include the ability to utilize theory and research to analyze historical trends and current perspectives in criminal justice, to use research to evaluate factors related to crime and the impact of crime on criminal justice policies, practices, and procedures, to evaluate the impact of U.S. constitutional policy and procedures on the criminal justice system, to analyze the impact of the criminal justice process on victims and perpetrators, and to synthesize principles from criminal justice theories, processes, and practices to promote social justice and positive social change, to compare the structural functions and interactions of law enforcement, courts, and corrections within the criminal justice system at the local, state, and federal level.
