Master of Education in Instructional Technology (M.Ed.)
Arcadia University currently offers a Master of Education Degree with a specialization in Instructional Technology for students interested in being hired to an educational administration position such as principal, vice-principal, dean or educational consultant. This degree combines traditional education methods with emerging technology procedures. The teachings focus on educational processes and how they can be applied using internet-based communication and learning. The program is also offered to students entirely online to allow flexibility in choosing when to complete assignments and engage in their learning. Students will learn how to critically review digital curriculum, make important leadership decisions, facilitate educational collaboration and use online practitioner-based research.
The curriculum consists of 30 credit hours that are a combination of foundation courses and specialization classes. The foundation courses cover basic education knowledge that teach a wide range of educational aspects. These include classes such as Foundations of Curriculum, Interpreting Educational Research, Web-Based Information Literacy, and Instructional Design for Educational Technology; 12 program credits will be in a technology specialization that students will select out of 3 choices. The first specialization is Digital Literacy which includes classes like Digital Tools for Data Driven Decision Making, Web-Based Resources, and Instructional Technology. The second specialization in Digital Design includes classes such as Technology Leadership, Multimedia Design in Teaching and Designing Collaborative Internet Activities. Students also have the option of combining the two specialties and completing the program with a specialty in General Technology. Individuals will have the opportunity to earn a Level I Pennsylvania Instructional and Educational Specialist certification upon completion of this degree.
