Graduate Certificate in Middle & Secondary Teaching

Program Details

The online Graduate Certificate in Middle and Secondary Teaching program is designed to help graduates acquire their initial A-level teaching license and expand upon their undergraduate major with teaching theory, practice, and preparation for today's culturally-diverse and technology-enhanced classrooms.

The program offers two tracks:

  • Middle Grades: Teach English/Language Arts, Science, Math or Social Studies at the middle school level.
  • Career & Technical: Teach Business, Marketing, Technology, Family & Consumer Sciences, Health Sciences or Trade & Industry at the middle and high school level.

Requirements

This program requires 19-24 credit hours for completion. Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in a discipline related to their chosen teaching area and have an overall GPA of 3.0 on all undergraduate work.

Restrictions

Appalachian cannot confirm whether this professional licensure program will meet the requirements for professional licensure outside North Carolina; therefore, prior to enrollment, if you intend to practice in another state, you must determine if this program meets requirements for licensure in your state by contacting your appropriate licensing agencies.
