Program Overview

The Master of Christian Education program is a professional graduate degree beyond the Bachelor of Arts or equivalent, designed to equip students for service as a minister of education, minister of youth, minister to children, or administrator in the local church, a missionary in the area of Christian education, or a teacher or administrator in a church-related school. The Master of Christian Education program is designed to promote growth toward personal maturity and ministry competence in the practice of church-related Christian education. This program seeks to guide students to develop the ability to understand and interpret the Christian faith in the light of its biblical, theological, and historical dimensions and to utilize insights gained from these disciplines for the effective practice of Christian education in the church, the community, and the world.

This specialized graduate program is designed for those in, or seeking to serve in, an educational ministry of a church or a related educational ministry. The program seeks to maximize the student's level of competency in church, or church related, educational ministry. Students have access to the admission policy of ASOT as found in the Graduate Student Handbook. Assessment forms and records are kept on file to assess that procedures are in place for monitoring how special students are benefited and serviced. When a student does not meet all the graduates standards for admission or its equivalent, the student must demonstrate the ability to benefit from the educational programs offered by Apex School of Theology. Life experience will also be considered.

    Apex School of Theology, Durham, NC accreditation is granted through Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools, (TRACS). TRACS is recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE), the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE).


    Apex School of Theology offers an Master of Christian Education. In order to graduate with an Master of Christian Education Degree, the student must meet the following requirements:
    1. Successfully complete sixty (60) credit hours including all core and or electives for Masters of Christian Education Degree.
    2. All financial obligations must be met.

    School Overview

    The ASOT provides theological education to prepare clergy and laity for service in churches, Christian ministries and the community. The institution’s educational programs are intended to increase the student’s level of knowledge, as well as remain committed to maintaining its diverse student body, faculty and staff. The institution’s history is grounded in the African-American religious experience.

    The institution expresses its commitment to the student’s overall development by promoting life-long learning, scholarly inquiry, and a commitment of service to others. Programs and services are geared towards promoting and nurturing student’s growth and development as persons who appreciate cultural diversity, and embody a sense of civic, social and religious responsibility. ASOT follows an open door admission policy based on the necessity of responding to each person at the appropriate individual level of ability and development. ASOT is an interdenominational, interracial, and gender inclusive community modeled on diversity, which constitutes the Body of Christ.

    The educational and service programs provide theological education and training to a constituency of mature, bi-vocational, and commuting students. These services are intended to enhance the student’s skills, and expand the student’s awareness, as well as broaden the student’s perspective quality of life. The curriculum is designed and implemented to prepare the clergy and laity for various ministries in theology and general education.
